Land Acknowledgement
In the Spirit of Truth and Reconciliation
We acknowledge that we are on the traditional territories of the Treaty 7 Nations: the Siksika, Piikani, and Kainai of the Blackfoot Confederacy; the Tsuut’ina Nation; and the Îyârhe Nakoda — Bearspaw, Chiniki, and Wesley First Nations. We also recognize the Métis Nation of Alberta, Region 3, whose footsteps have marked this land for generations. As we gather here to play lacrosse — a sport with deep roots in Indigenous cultures — we recognize and honor its origins as more than a game. For many First Nations, lacrosse is a sacred tradition known as ‘The Creator’s Game,’ used for healing, celebration, and community connection. We express our gratitude for the opportunity to play this game on these lands, and we commit to honoring its spirit with respect, sportsmanship, and awareness.
